Randy has designed and built Cardea’s Tribeca Ketamine Space in New York City to enhance the calming, novel and imaginative environment for transformative experiences. The space’s design materializes Cardea’s concept of “radical hospitality,” which places the guest and their goals at the visual, tactile, and acoustical center of the experience. All sensory interactions have been considered, from lighting, sound, scents and textures, leading each moment of a journey to a new discovery.

We don’t always experience ourselves as alive and we don’t always appreciate the life in others. In fact, days can go by in which our lives feel deadened, closed-off, or empty. Luckily, there is a very human process that brings us to life and opens us to others, one in which psychedelics can aid us. This practice has been performed by our species since we first painted the walls of caves.

It’s play.

Think of a child playing with her toys and you’ll see just how serious this business of play is. While playing, a child becomes enrapt in her senses, focused, and “in flow,” all the while animating her toys, taking what is wooden and bringing it to life. She also feels deeply connected to the toy. The same is true in all kinds of adult encounters too: in good conversations, in collaborative work, cultural pursuits, artmaking, lovemaking, and just plain making, play brings us closer to ourselves and to others.

All our methods at Cardea aim to bring our guests into a state of play, since we think play is at the very root of change. Whether its making free flowing art together prior to our group ketamine sessions, or engaging in our dialogic process prior to our one-on-one treatments, we are helping our guests reach a state of play.

Play is the marrow of compassion, an essential element of cooperation and innovation, and it’s what we are doing when we contemplate. To play is to be liberated. In this, it’s a whole lot more than “fun.”

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has been used in the medical community since the 1970s. At Cardea, ketamine is prescribed “off label.” We believe that when used in this context, ketamine can induce a state that can be a part of your awakening to a more meaningful experience.

At the dosage you are prescribed, you will most likely experience a sense of relaxing sedation, mild dissociation, and potentially psychedelic effects. After administration, it will take approximately 5-10 minutes to feel the effect and the experience typically lasts an hour.

If you are struggling with a challenging experience of mind or mood, we strongly recommend the standard 6-session package completed over the course of 6 weeks. While one or two ketamine sessions can certainly be a positive experience, people tend to return to their recent baseline in a matter of hours or days. We know that all meaningful change occurs in the context of relationship. It takes some time to develop a relationship to the support staff, the medicine, and the space. There tends to be movement in peoples’ experience from session to session, and it is often in the recognition of this movement that the seeds for growth are sown.
